Out and About

A very cold day today with light snow arriving mid-afternoon, quite nasty later, with an icy East north east wind blowing here.

Ema had a dental appointment around lunch time and we were worried about the timing of the snow's arrival, anyway we managed to get from Bradshaw to Sowerby Bridge, Sowerby Bridge to Whitehill (Illingworth) then down to MacDonald's Salterhebble and on to Sowerby Bridge and then back to Bradshaw - quite a morning - with only a flake of snow late on.

In amongst the "stops" I kept an eye out for birds!

Earlier this morning, a slight misunderstanding ,when a grapevine text alerted me to Whooper Swans > W over "Cock Hill".

I know of a Cock Hill near Shelf and I thought the Whoopers were heading my way.

As it turned out this Cock Hill was in the Fly Flats / Oxenhope area.

Anyway, the resulting very cold sky watch brought me a "this year" garden tick with a Greylag Goose over the house, quite low. A Green Woodpecker also called from near Oats Royd bottom.

While Ema was at the dentist I had a look around some woodland nearby.

Just Blue and Great Tit, Chaffinch and a singing Mistle Thrush here.

After a MacDonald's, where a Heron flew past, we dropped Ema back at White Windows and I had a look around the garden area here.

A Great Spotted Woodpecker undulated across the sky.

A Bullfinch seen / called and there were a few other small birds about.

A Peregrine was seen elsewhere.

A very old joke:

A man was tearing down the M1 in his new Porche, doing 140 mph, when he heard a knocking on his side window.

He was amazed when he saw a motor biker ,doing the same 140mph, next to him,  gesticulating with a cigarette.

He wound the window down and the Motor Biker said " Gizza light for me fag mate"

"You'll kill your B.... self mate" replied Mr. Porche.

"No I won't" replied the biker, "I only smoke 5 a day",
