Halton to Caton and Hest Bank to Morecambe.
After yesterdays enjoyable walk from Heysham to Morecambe (see earlier blog)
we came up trumps again today with another cracking outing - a really enjoyable
break away.
Another sunny one but quite cold especially this morning.
We intended to go to Carnforth this morning but the buses didn't quite work for us.
In the end we opted for a really beautiful walk along the river Lune to Caton.
Not much open in Caton this morning so we treated ourselves to a Co-op meal deal,
which we ate while waiting for another bus.
Again we were hoping to change at Halton for Carnforth,
but again we failed to pick up the right bus in time.
A gentleman at the bus stop mentioned that he had, had to tell two drivers
which way to go through the village, with the same numbered bus going different ways at different
times during the day!
Anyway, we reached Lancaster bus station and caught the Carnforth bus, but as we
arrived at Hest Bank, Sue remembered a lovely walk that we had done here (20 years ago!)
so we jumped off the bus here and found another cracking little café over the railway line.
We walked along the coast to reach Morecambe from the other direction to yesterday.
A great decision as there were some good birds along the way.
Another bus into Lancaster was followed by the fifth bus of the day back to the Greyhound
in Halton.
A well deserved pint and a good natter with the landlord before headed back
to the Caravan Park for tea!
Birds:-
Bullfinch, Black Headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Herring Gull,
Great Black-backed Gull.
Dunlin, 3 Common Sandpiper, c10 Goosander.
Cormorant, Mute Swan, 2 Heron.
Eider Duck.
Pied Wagtail, Grey Wagtail.
Nice to see some Mallard ducklings – 2 quite large ones and a squadron of tiny tots.
Oystercatcher, Whimbrel, Curlew.
2 Godwits - Bar Tailed Godwit? (Upturned bill) and Black Tailed Godwit -straight bill?
Redshank, Ringed Plover.
A Gull with a light coloured head – is probably Herring though.
Hopefully I've mentioned all the birds in the photos below.
