Bridlington

To break the school holiday up, we took Abi for 2 nights holiday to Bridlington this week at South Cliff caravan park, a very large and busy place.

The local clubhouse / restaurant was very good.

Monday was a tad wet!
After arriving mid-afternoon, Monday, we went to town to have a look see.
On the way home it bounced down, but it was not all bad, because we had to dive into the on site clubhouse for tea.
The sun came out and we placed our wet clothing in the window to dry and then we were forced to sit in the conservatory eating and drinking until it had dried out (it got dried out on the outside but we got very, very wet on the inside).

On Tuesday we called at the nearby massive car boot sale but just some junk here mostly .
Abi found some bits to buy though.

Later ,  we spent quite a bit of time walking around town and then along the spacious promenade that goes to Sewerby Hall etc.

I had a just one birding outing, on Tuesday morning , with a look at the Bridlington harbour area as the tide was on its way in.

Good to see 30+ Turnstone and 10 or so Sanderling.
The Sanderling were running along the edge of the water near the harbour , but were soon
flushed by some holiday makers and they flew off , boo-hoo.

One or two Sanderling looked to have leg rings?

On our return walk from Sewerby several Sandwich Tern were distant, calling , and one was being mobbed by what I thought at the time was a Skua species.
I got a really bad, distant photo of the bird, and I now think its a Great Black-backed Gull not a Skua - although having said that , the plumage doesn't seem to match either Skua of Great Black-backed - see what you think. I think its a Skua looking at the tail.

"Sluggish" looking Guillemots , near the shore , were unusual for me to see here , so near the beach,  and I wondered if they were victims of bird flu.
I've read somewhere that Guillemot were falling victim to bird fly along the Pembrokeshire coast.

Birds:

Razorbill, Sanderling, Turnstone, Herring Gull, Kittiwake, Cormorant.
Great Black-backed Gull, Black Headed Gull.
Oystercatcher.
