Cold but picturesque Cold Edge Dams

I had a free morning with Sue and Abi shopping in Wakefield before Abi spends a few nights with us.

I decided to drive over to park at Wainstalls near the ex. Delvers Inn and walk down the road to the second stile on the right and then up a boggy path to the Dams.

No cafĂ© here so I packed some caviar sandwiches and some Strawberries Arnaud for afters.

These I enjoyed at the side of a very beautiful setting by Leadbeater Dam at lunchtime.

I was caught out by the cold wind here,  having "gone down a coat" from my Icelandic Heated Comfy Down Majestic to the Berghaus Crude Mae West II.
An enjoyable trod with a few "ticks" to be had today!

It was nice to chat to JS & DJS who I met as I was nearly back to my car.

My usual local fields extravaganza was kyboshed today - substituted for a trip to Bradshaw Park for a game of "football" and a game of  "whack the tennis ball with a baseball bat" (or miss the B thing!) with Abi and Sue.

Birds:-

(Mostly on Leadbeater Dam).

2 Pied Wagtail.
20+ Meadow Pipit.
Greenfinch.
Curlew.
Skylark.
Kestrel with prey.
Canada Geese.
Mallard.
2 Buzzard very high.
Five Redshank. (Great to hear and see).
Reed Bunting.
3 Heron.
2 Red Grouse.
Pheasant.
Tufted Duck Pr.
4/5 Herring Gull over.

(Cormorant was the only bird seen on Mixi Res. from the top road).

3 Buzzards up together over Roper Lane Mid-afternoon.

Very, very distant Geese - Greylags probably.
