Very dull and misty in Bradshaw a.m.
My twitch record leaves a lot to be desired but today I finally got chance to have a try for the Savonian Grebe that has been seen in various spots around Todmorden - the latest sighting being on Lee Dam, Lumbutts.
I do not know Lumbutts area at all, so I put Top Brink Inn postcode into my Sat Nav and it took me up the very narrow Shaw Lane.
As I neared the area I asked a jogger where Lee Dam was, "50 yds down on your left, mate" - result.
I donned me wellies, camera and bins walked to the edge of the dam and Bingo! one Slavonian Grebe - Result.
The bird showed amazingly well and it seemed to be catching small fish with ease. Listening to other birders / photographers here I reckon it caught at least 6 fish in the 2 hours or so I was here.
It looked too small to stomach all that!
If it had got all them at the fish shop it would be skint!!
Also here Green Woodpecker, Great Crested Grebe , 4 Redpoll and 3 Teal.
One birder eyeballed a Kingfisher but I didn't.
Home , was going to be via the better road past The Top Brink , but a broken down wagon had closed this road. So I went back via Shaw Lane.
Arriving at Burdock Way flyover one lane was was coned off and it took 20 minutes to get onto Keighkey Road.
Looked like they were grass cutting??
Oh! the joys of motoring.
Even so, a great trip given my twitching record.
Quiz:-
Which band released the album Tranquillity Base Hotel in 2018?
( I'm glad I'm staring at the answers to these questions on the quiz cards - I realise that I know nothing after 1970 and before 1970 - less than nothing!).
Quiz Answer:-
Arctic Monkeys.
