River Ryburn / Ringstone Reservoir and A Great Pie

A great day for a birding walk with a cold, crisp sunny morning as we drove over to Ripponden to park near then church to have a walk along the river Ryburn.

This is a super walk that we have not done many years ( don't know why).

We followed the river for , probably, over 1 mile then the path left the river to climb to properties.

At the properties we turned back and retraced our steps.

Back at Ripponden Church we needed a pee - So we called at the Fleece Inn for a coffee.

The menu here looks really good and at the moment they have a 50% off, offer, on.

(Not often I get to write off offer on in none sentence).

After the coffee I wanted to visit Ringstone so we headed off to Barkisland.

Sue had the great idea to call at Barkisland Post Office for a snack.

We opted for a warm pie, mine was Pork and apple - yummy.

Ringstone was more kind to me today than on some of my other visit, bright, windy with some good birds.

Birds:-

Greylag Goose seen on the journey.

Ryburn River Walk.

2 Dipper.

10 (7 Male ) Mandarin Duck.

(One Drake had unusually colouring on the 'neck feathers'  on the internet a similar picture of 'my' drake is described as a putative hybrid between Mandarin Duck and Wood Duck - however the writer of the article thinks that most likely a colour mutation).

Ringstone Reservoir:

Pied Wagtail.

Bullfinch.

A large Lapwing flock airborne - C76.

Lapwing on the NNW field (a few minutes later) top most probably the same birds.

Many distant Gulls, strewn over a large area.

26 Golden Plover (took some finding).

2 Cormorant.

Distant wobbly video.

Drake Mandarin (Left) with colour mutation.
