A slightly better morning in Bradshaw but still dull and damp.
Sue dropped me at the entrance to Cromwell Bottom N.R. so I could enjoy a birding walk into Brighouse to meet her for lunch.
On the drive there it was pouring with rain so I wasn't looking forward to getting soaked.
As it turned out though the rain stopped as we neared Cromwell Bottom N.R. and I did not get wet at all - result.
I did my usual plod along the river to just beyond the newly fenced off pier and then back along the river and canal into Brighouse.
We went to the Golden Hind for lunch, enjoying fish / salad / Pudding / Tea Bread & Butter for £11.50 each - all excellent.
Emojis - yesterday.
1. Wigeon [Wig John ] - a bit tenuous!
2, Turnstone.
3. Swallow.
4, Stork.
5. Diver.
6. Rook.
Birds:-
Great to see some for a change!
A Little Grebe was diving frequently near the weir.
Bullfinch.
7 Moorhen.
A flock of very, very mobile Goldfinch were near the feeders.
I managed to eek-out 1 Siskin and 3 Redpoll from the group.
Stock Dove.
4 Teal on the Lagoon.
I had 15 mins. looking at the ski-lake through the 'prison bars', unusually there were no Tufties or Scaup seen, and I tried really hard to locate them!
The 'usual' 4 species of Gull.
4 Heron.
8 Cormorant.
4 Canada Goose.
6 Goldeneye (3 Males).
3 Mute Swan - although one was far from Mute!
3 Coot.
Jay.
5 Goosanders ( 2 Males ).
And quite a few other species.
A really enjoyable outing - drizzle and yuck back home p.m.
and ... a few more species added to my 2025 Calderdale's Year List.
