Trains, Buses and Boots

We were a bit late deciding where to go today so it was 10:30 a.m. before we caught the 526 to Halifax.
From here we caught the train to Littleborough ( with a change of train at Todmorden).
Train tickets seem unnecessary complicated to me - and we'd moved out of West Yorkshire so the old farts card was null and void.

From Littleborough we walked up to Hollingworth Lake and had a drink and a Toasted T Cake in the RSPSA cafe there.

With limited time before dark we opted to walk back down to the canal and did not do a circuit of the lake today.

We walked along the canal to Todmorden.
With the recent very poor weather, Sue had not been out walking for a good few days and she found the walk today a tad dodgy, with her hip giving here grief.

However, we made Todmorden ok and we were very lucky to catch the Halifax train with just 15 minutes to wait.

We were too late for the 502 & 526 hourly buses to Bradshaw and with one Illingworth bus blobbing, there was a large crown waiting for the next one (a single decker as it turned out).

So we opted to catch the 576 to Queensbury and legged it up a pretty dark Roper Lane.
A bit "M1" like at rush hour - I flashed my phone torch at the road on the dodgy bits and we made it to the Raggalds without issue.

We decided to have a well earned vino callaposo and a Blonde Beer to wind down before walking home.

Birds:

A Great Crested Grebe was seen on Hollingworth Lake from the road.

Just a small camera today.

2 Moorhen, Nuthatch.
5 Goosander (2 Males).
Kestrel.

2 x 2 Heron standing upright on nests at Brearley.

Not much else.

A Peregrine was on the chimney opposite the Halifax Railway Station.
