Egyptian Geese Twitch - Cromwell Bottom.

The Calderdale Birding Group WhatsApp pinged this afternoon with an extra special sighting from Kath & Mick of Egyptian Geese at Cromwell Bottom.

I decided to have a run down and see if I could find them.

The traffic was grim - 30 minutes to do 7 miles (14 mph).

I parked near the fishing lake car park and walked along the canal, eyeballing the water through the trees and not seeing much.

At the railings a good squint through them to my left revealed an Egyptian Goose obscured by both the railings and some wooden benches.

This was a Calderdale First for me.

A bit later 3 Egyptian Goose came into view giving a better chance to get some photographs.

They soon strayed back behind the benches though.

I only stayed 30 minutes or so, wanting to miss the rush hour traffic on my way home.

A great result for a pretty rare bird in Calderdale.

Birds:-

3 Egyptian Geese.

4 Scaup.

1 Little Grebe on the lagoon with others calling.

6 Goldeneye (2 Drakes).

3 Goosander.

c20 Cormorant.

2 Tufted Ducks.

Coot.

Moorhen.

(I did not have enough time to look at the Gulls much!).

My first non-Calderdale Curlew of the year was heard this morning as I was getting out of the car at the newly found Coldstream Coffee Mill Cafe (for us) at Cullingworth.
