Circular walk Bradshaw-SH-Ogden-Bradshaw.

Another soaking
(getting wet so often of late, noticing skin growth between my fingers – not sure what is causing the hair on the palm of my hands though – GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR).

11:30 SH Bright & Breezy.

A quick lap of the contour footpath on the way to Ogden.
Woodpigeon. Plenty Skylark & Meadow pipit. 3 Lapwing trying to sort out 25+ corvids.
Linnet, Kestrel & Male Pheasant.

Coal Lane to Ogden via Bridleway & Plantation.

2F 1M Pheasant. 3 Swallow. Then a bonus 2 Swift (my first locals this year).

Ogden Circuit.

Lots of dog walkers (this came as a surprise given the poor weather).
8 Willow Warbler. Chiffchaff. 2 LBBG. Jay
I’d spotted the F. Goosander ( B.S. yesterday blog) when I was coming off the hill earlier, but could not find it on the water. Whilst scanning the water for it a Common Sandpiper flew past towards the north end of the res. This is a first for me at Ogden. Although I spent a while around the water, disappointingly, I did not locate it again – have to get a pic. next time.
The rain began to lash down so I called it a do.

On the way home (13:50) via the prom. a compact (not long) pigeon sized raptor flew low slowly over the trees behind the visitor centre. It had a blue back and very light underparts. It was carrying prey in its talon and flew with a few wing beats, a glide and a few wing beats.

Soil Hill Male Pheasant keeping out of the wind

Some leaves oh and a Willow Warbler

  1. Well spotted on the Common Sand John, not a regular bird for Ogden. No sign this evening and Goosanders gone.

  2. I was thinking you would take a look at Ogden later today and I was looking forward to seeing your pic. Of the common Sand!
At least I didn't miss it on my trek round the res.
    Cheers Brian.
