Sue dropped
me at Ogden this aft.
Ogden was very busy with touristy
types and lots of dogs.
Some people actually on the shoreline
with a 2/3 year old and a dog – looked a bit dangerous to me (not the dog, the
kiddie being so close to the water). School holidays nearly ended so I’ll be
able to stop moaning - or then again not.
I’ve only had these walking boots 15
years and the heels are beginning to wear down.
Ogden:
Anyway –
going around the circuit a Willow Warbler and a singing Chiffchaff.
No sign of
NK’s Teal but spotted NK himself and we had a good moan about stuff in general.
Three
Cormorant present on the water and a Pr. Tufted Duck.
Adult and Juv. Grey Wagtail feeding together on the West shoreline.
Also 3 Wren,
BHG, I counted 4 Common Gull (so there’s most probably more), LBBG, 2 GCG.
Just a
Moorhen found when I left via the plantation area. The plantation bridleway
track unusually quiet – maybe the horsebox trundling along it had a bearing.
A bearing? Surely more than one bearing on a
horsebox.
Ned Hill Area:
It was very
pleasant up here today with a nice breeze to keep me cool.
10 Swallows
were feeding low to the grass around Pottery Cottage.
Also
Goldfinch and a Meadow Pipit hiding in a tree.
20 Starlings
in a hurry > S.
Soil Hill: – windy but very picturesque.
The contour
track is very overgrown now, so a bit of guesswork needed crossing the hill.
I flushed a Jack Snipe or
possibly a Snipe, as I went across the North Slope.
It flew away
with jerky movements over the North Slope but did not rise very high in the air.
Also up
there a couple of Meadow Pipit and 4 Skylark.
Only a
Chaffinch spotted on the descent via Taylor Lane and the bridleway to Bradshaw.
Actually a more enjoyable walk than Burnsall yesterday.
Todays' Post - Rules ignored by most.
A pretty Soil hill from Ogden
Soil Hill contour path not distinguishable
Tomorrows sirloin steak - today.
Good to meet you John; after I left you i took the very same route you did. There was a warbler in a bush by the house on Ned Hill track but it wouldn't reveal its id. I persevered down Perseverance and below Hartley Sq farm I got 2 Wheatear, 3 Pied Wags and 4 Meadow Pipit
ReplyDeleteI would be very surprised if you got a Jack Snipe this early, they are Oct/Nov arrivals from the northern tundra.
Yeah I hung around ,most prob. at the same bush , behind the cottages just getting a glimpse of a warbler type.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what the "snipe imitator" could be though. Knowing you , you will have a record of when the first snipe arrived on the block.
John
Could be common if course?
ReplyDeleteA good trek round John, no wonder there was no sign of any waders with nerds on the shoreline.
ReplyDeleteGood to get a Snipe on the hill as they tend to be a bit scarce just now though you,ll have to go back in winter for a Jack.
You'll have to get a Kindle Bri.
ReplyDeleteYou can type as fast as billy-ho but the spelling goes diwn the toilet.
Cheers for the comments.
John.
