Now
that Sue’s foot has nearly returned to normal size after her op. in October, we
had a day shopping for ‘normal’ shoes at Kendal. There is an outlet village
there called ‘K’ village and a few good shoe shops with, as Sue discovered,
some very good bargains. She was well chuffed.
On the way up I spotted only 2 Oystercatcher which
was a bit surprising. What was more surprising, was (I am fairly sure) a Little
Egret seen from the car in the fields about 2 miles above Settle. It seemed a
very odd place to see Little Egret though?
We
had the obligatory visit to the café for some toast, a few hours shopping,
another café visit for a sarnie, another hours shop and headed off home.
A Grey Wagtail was on the river outside the shopping
village and on the journey home I spotted Kestrel, Grey Heron and Greylag Geese
with prolific numbers of small gulls in the fields.
On the way home we decided to stop at Hellifield
Flash – a good move.
Birds: Hellifield Flash:
Here
goes – a test of my poor bird ID skills especially the Black Tailed Godwit and
the Scaup!
BHG, Common Gull, Black Tailed Godwit, Shoveler,
Teal, Pintail, Widgeon, Oystercatcher, Lapwing, A Scaup (I though this was a Tufted Duck at first but looking at the photo I
think it’s a Scaup), Shelduck, Mallard, Mute Swan, Coot and Large flock of
Starling over.
(I made a
little wish for them to come visit Ogden in the not too distant future!)
Amazing the difference in birds just a few miles away from here, not to mention annoying.
ReplyDeleteRight on the Blackwits, can,t tell on the f Scaup
Thanks for you comments Bri.
ReplyDeleteJohn

ReplyDeleteCheers Andy - last time I was there was a good few years back and there was just a few gulls about.
