Reservoir run part two.

It was a bright and sunny afternoon but very cold, especially at Leeshaw.
At last something on the Res. – but nothing tooooo exciting.

Ponden 13:15 (ish)

Pr. Goosander, a few small gulls, Mallard, 4 Muscovy ducks followed me around hoping I’d got some grub for them!
What looked like a Blackbird in the bins but I think may be a Song Thrush on the photo?
A few pheasant, Robin & not a lot else.
Where have all the Woodpeckers gone?

Lower Laithe

Small Gulls & Mallards as far as I could tell.

Leeshaw 14:00

A raw North East ‘breeze’ kept the old hands looking a nice shade of blue.
15 Greylag Geese on the water, and at least 6 Canada Geese on the banking at the far end. Pr. Goosander, Cormorant, Mistle Thrush & Fieldfare.
Over 400 small gulls – a lot more than usual.
The farmer was applying some brown smelly aftershave to the fields – so that will have had a bearing on the gull numbers no doubt.

Leeming 14:50

The reservoir is at least 75% frozen over.
One minute there were c40 small gulls next minute zilch.

Woodpigeon, M. Bullfinch, 5 LTT, Mistle Thrush and usual small Tit sp.

Ponden.

  1. Song Thrush is a Blackbird, but good pic of the Mistle.
Leeshaw should start to perform now with muck spreading on the go.
