Soil Hill Eclipse of the sun

 9:15 - 10:00

Soil Hill

I went for an hour , before "Granddaughter Day", mainly to put some bird seed down. When I got there, there were 9 cars parked up - MEGGA - I thought. A passer-by soon put me right "Eclipse in it!".
The eclipse came and went with the hill eerily quiet for a time, then as the daylight increased the Skylarks took to the sky and commenced their song.

A quick tour did not produce the hoped for Wheatear only  a strange, strong, very cold west wind on the west side track.

A passing dog walker had met with a shock at the top pond, he passed within a few feet of the 'resident' Grey Heron, neither dog walker nor Heron noticing one another until the last minute when the Heron made a large flapping get away.

I spotted the Heron on the lower north side (NK) pond, with, what looks like a pr Teal.

Birds:

8 Skylark. Grey Heron. Pheasant, Lapwing, 2 Magpie,13 Meadow Pipit, Blackbird and a Chaffinch, pr. Teal.

  1. Those Teal are hanging on well there. Bet you could nearly touch the eclipse from Soil Hill

  2. Very cloudy up there, just the odd break - looks like Queensbury did a bit better.
A bit strange when the birds went quiet.
