After taking Emma to West Vale garden centre to buy her granddad a
birthday present (he's 95 in a week or
so), and do some Christmas shopping, we had time for a short walk along the
canal tow path at Copley.
There is some nice Christmassy stuff at
the garden centre, if you like that sort of thing.
I'm more a bah humbug type myself.
The temperature was 10 degrees and the weather
dull, but at least we had left behind the Bradshaw thick mist.
I was hoping for a lesser pecker , but it
was quiet on the canal with birds in short supply.
Joke:
I went to a zoo the other day; it had just
one animal in it – a dog.
It was a Shih Tzu!
(Thanks Ruth).
Birds:-
4 Jay, GSW heard but not seen, 2 Canada
Geese, Mallard.
Some squeakers could be heard from
underneath a canal bridge.
10 Goldfinch near Copley viaduct
(I tried
in vain to turn one into a Siskin).
Kestrel (looking uncannily like a Cuckoo) and Heron seen in the trees.
Um .. din dins
link:-
Your Cuckoo /Kestrel is a Sparrowhawk John.
ReplyDeleteGood call Bri.
ReplyDeleteIt landed in the tree for 30 seconds, I just managed this one pic.
Knew it was an odd "Kestrel" but would not have ID'd as a Sparrowhawk from the poor snap.
Thanks for that.
John
Bah Humbug Brian, let it be a cuckoo/kestrel lol.
ReplyDeleteI can actually recognise it as a sparrowhawk! Now that I've studied the photo Dave, but I just put it down as a Kestrel at the time.
ReplyDeleteThose Cuckoo on Taylor Lane were the dogs - weren't they?
John.
Certainly were John they'll be sunning it up in Africa now mate, Sparrowhawk came flying through the works yard yesterday very low and around the vans, was great to see especially when it's near Bradford town centre, mmmm or was it a cuckoo/kestrel haha
