FOGDEN

9:30 -11:00

A short spell at a fog bound Ogden for me this morning.
The water was hardly visible, just the shoreline for the most part.

I enjoyed a chat, on the telling bone, with B.S. this morning when we both had a good grumble about the 'thick mist'.

I thought the place would be deserted but there were 2 groups of school kids and plenty of dog walkers doing the circuit.
As expected birds were hard to come by and even harder to see and my photos are rubbish.

A honking coming from the deep gloom was credited to a Canada Goose, given that the bird could not be seen. A second Canada Goose appeared later as a very faint outline on the shore.
There were tons of Chaffinch on the West bank.
I had a real good scan but came up with Chaffinch after Chaffinch.
There must have been at least one Brambling in there somewhere but I could not see it!!

The highlight of a dull, depressing outing was seeing 4 Song Thrush.
They were very flighty, zooming up and down the bushes on the eastern side - they seemed very nervous of flying across the pond into the gloom.

It was so dull this morning that I'm nearly looking forward to my trip to the dentist this aft!

I hope it's bangers and mash for tea - (well I'll get bangers either way).

Birds:

6 Blackbird, 50 Chaffinch, 6 Goldcrest, Blue & Great Tit, 4 Dunnock, 4 Robin, 2 Wren, M. Bullfinch, 2 Nuthatch, 2 Coal Tit, 2 Canada Goose, Mallards and small gull sp, 4 Song Thrush.

Canada Goose - well it is a long way off (Canada that is).

Can't blame the fog for this rubbishy M. Bullfinch shot though

Today's post minus Nuthatch!

and finally .....

For today's homework-
How do you tell a Sparrowhawk from a Kestrel:-

  3. I'm trying to get Abigail (5) interested in birds, by doing some drawings.
She just likes the colour pink - not many birds in Halifax that are pink though Bri.
