Cullingworth Fields / Raggalds Flood

With the prospect of the electricity being turned off for 3 hours in parts of Bradshaw this morning, we had a few jobs to do near Halifax and then we headed off to Coldspring Mills Café and outdoor shop at Cullingworth.

I had a stop for 5 minutes to take some pictures of a large contingent of gulls in the fields nearby, hoping the photos might reveal a ‘special’.

The first and second lot of gulls were very far away so the pictures are very poor, the third lot of gulls were a bit nearer so they are just poor.
I have had a good look through the photos and I can see BHG, Common Gull and LBBG and 2 Herring Gull (cheers Nigel).

On the way home we stopped at Raggalds Flood for a couple of minutes and it was nice to have a chat with B.S. who pulled in behind our car just after we had parked up.

There were just a few small Gulls and a flock of Starlings here and B.S. pointed out 5 or so Fieldfare that flew over at head height. (well ‘head height’ for one of us).

It was heartening to see a good volume of corporation pop in the flood..

The long range weather is for storms to continue for a few weeks.

If the forecast is to be believed, then the coming rain should keep the flood topped up and …………….who knows - Santa might drop something in!

Photo 31 cropped is awful - but here it is:-

I need a big heavy one Bri.
Thanks for showing as interest.

  1. Pic 31 looks like a good candidate for a Yellow Legged Herring gull to me with the large bulbus head . Maybe you can crop and play about with the photo to try get a leg colour.
