9:35 - 12:00
I had another attempt to nab a Lesser
Pecker while Sue was off having a hairdo today.
I had a couple of hours or so down at
Coach Road and the Stony Lane area, this morning.
There was no sign of the Lesser Pecker and
it took a good while to see a Great Spotted Woodpecker (although I heard one calling
early on).
I did not hear any Woodpecker drumming at all today.
A quick call at Priestley Green, on the way home, didn’t amount to much either.
After seeing a ‘free
range eggs for sale’ sign I went to buy some , from a smallholding there ,and
spent my ‘birding time’ talking to the ‘egg-lady’ and her son.
Ah well – I’ll take a look at Priestley Green another day – maybe tomorrow
if the forecast 6” of snow stays away!
Priestley Green is where a Nightjar was
heard ‘reeling’ many ,many moons ago.
Maybe I’ll get lucky this summer and hear
a Nightjar!
Birds:
2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Jay, Singing Song Thrush, Long Tailed
Tit, Blue & Great Tit, 2 Nuthatch, 2 Singing Wren, 4 Dunnock, Green Woodpecker calling, 6 Robin, 4 Chaffinch, Goldfinch,
Greenfinch, loads of Blackbird and 1 Redwing and a few Robin of course.
Pr. Mistle Thrush on the farm roof when I got home.
Above:- A quick photo hoping to get the Great Spotted Woodpecker
Below: I actual found it in the branches, after scrolling through the photo.
Lots of singing Robin today
A pretty garden at Priestley Green
No reports of Lesser pecker yet in that area John . Hopefully this will be your lucky day.
ReplyDeleteIve been lucky and had 4 in 50 years. !!
I think they are in residence down there - I just need to hone my birding skills and have the camera ready and maybe a visit to specsavers and who knows - just wait for 15 years for the first sighting!!
