Ogden – Bradshaw Walk

17:50 – 20:30

It was a beautiful evening and I enjoyed a walk from Ogden to Bradshaw via the golf course and Brockholes.

It was the evening of the flying ant. Although the ants landed on me periodically they found me resistible and did not bite!

Tough birding this evening – I guess I went out a bit to late in the day.

Ogden Water had a good number of small gulls mainly Black Headed Gulls and c10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls.

One gull came in and circled making a call like a Herring Gull but I did not ID it and I’m not sure if a Lesser Black-backed Gull makes the same or similar call.

Having just come back from Whitby – I should be able to ID a Herring Gull call – Whitby has hundreds of Herring Gull.

Anyway I’ve posted a few photos in case I’ve got a Herring Gulll but don’t recognise it.

Also about 5 Cormorant, c10 Canada Geese, 6 Long Tailed Tit, Mallard.

The Golf Course area had 3 Meadow Pipit, Jay, Juv. Pheasant, Willow Warbler and a cracking M. Bullfinch and these few species took some finding!!

On the way home, Cow Hill Gate Lane had a mixed flock of Goldfinch and Linnet .

It’s school holidays so we have Abigail and Emma for a few days – my back still not right from trying to keep up dancing with Abigail at St Annes.
Must be getting old when you can’t match a 5 ¾ year old’s stamina!

Herring Gull ???
