In amongst I managed a short walk around Skipton Castle Woods.
On the way home Sue dropped me at Ogden
Ogden 16:15 - 19:00
I had a good nosy around the golf course track and then did a circuit of the water (well most of it) before heading home via Ned Hill Track and Perseverance Road.
I gave Soil Hill the cold shoulder this evening - it was quite dark when I got there.
Birds - Ogden.
Approaching the golf course track 3 Meadow Pipit, Kestrel and 2 Grey Wagtail were seen.
The trees by the track held a mixture of Blue, Great & Long Tailed Tit and a few Goldcrest - difficult to estimate the numbers though.
A bird sat far, far away on a wall:-
First I though Little Owl,as I got nearer, I though Wheater, nearer still I got a bit over excited and though Merlin!
As I got within 100 yds a second bird popped up onto the wall... then a third .... 9 came along in total - Mistle Thrush a good count
but somehow a disappointment.
Looking at the photos - one of the birds - that soon disappeared from the wall - is probably a Stonechat but I'm not at all sure.
2 Geese > SSE half a mile off!!
Ogden Water 17:30
c100 Small Gulls and 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls.
2 Cormorant and a Little Grebe.
The circuit was very, very quite this evening as I passed through - but I suppose that could change within minutes of me leaving!
Leaving Ogden a Green Woodpecker called loudly from the North end.
Just 5 Linnet and a couple of Swallow seen as dusk approached as I went towards Soil Hill.
I chose to go along Ned Hill Track and Perseverance Road home, giving Soil Hill the cold shoulder because it was dark-ish.
Going along Taylor Lane a medium sized, neat, sharp winged, dark grey, blue raptor flew past.
It would have landed on the wall but a tractor in the field disturbed it.
Birds - Skipton.
The woods were very dark.
Dipper, Grey Wagtail, Many singing Robins, Common Buzzard on a wall, 2 Nuthatch a few Swallow.
Kestrel
Grey Wagtail
First glimpse
I thought this was the same bird until I looked at the photo - possible Stonechat?
Mistle Thrush
Originally had theses as Geese - could well be Mallard!!
Little Grebe
Juv. Woodpigeon
