Oats Royd.
I enjoyed a stroll down and around Oats Royd this afternoon. The breeze was all over the shop, coming from the North and later South East.
Very quite down there today.
Birds:-
2+1 Little Owl calling not seen.
Great Spotted Woodpecker.
Meadow Pipit, Chaffinch, 3 Moorhen.
Jay, 3 Bullfinch calling not seen.
On the way home I happened to look back, "just in case", and I spotted a Sparrowhawk perched far off in a conifer. I decided to go back down to get a better picture but the Sparrowhawk soon left the scene.
A call sounding like a Cuckoo was heard from below Roper Farm, Roper Lane - I know a Cuckoo calling in October is impossible so it was something else!!
Another call but this time the culprits did reveal themselves, 3 Red Legged Partridge flew down to the field bottom in the approaching gloom.
It seemed like a lot of effort for little reward until the Sparrowhawk and RLP made in a worthwhile trip.
York.
We had a few days in York earlier this week.
The highlight was seeing c400 Golden Plover from the car as we drove along the A64.
Conveniently a layby popped into view and we could park up and get a few snaps.
Birds:-
Syklark looking very dapper (tried to turn it into something else but failed).
c60 Swallow>SE. Yellowhammer.
Buzzard being mobbed by another unid raptor.
Long Tailed Tit, Heron.
A singing Chiffchaff.
Oats Royd:-
Today's Jigsaw Puzzle
A very distant Sparrowhawk (could be a Peregrine? but I doubt it)
York:
A friendly bug
Sue investigates potato gathering, washing and packing. They are on the way to make Walkers Crisps
A Dapper Skylark
Yellowhammer
Rook with an "unusual call"
Above cropped and lightened from earlier pic.
This raptor was mobbing a Buzzard
