Shibden Park & Bradshaw to Ogden circular

Morning:

We had some fun this morning with Abigail & Emma at Shibden Park.

There were the usual Black Headed Gulls, Coots, Moorhen and Swans (2 Adult & 7 Cygnets).
The "resident" Heron sat proudly high in a
tree-top.
A Great Spotted Woodpecker called from beyond the Boating Lake Hut but I failed to locate it.

Bradshaw to Ogden circular.

15:00 - 17:50.

Ogden is becoming a bit of an obsession.
Quite a few early afternoon visits , have been very poor, so I thought I try B.S.'s late afternoon visit to passerine alley , and it paid dividends.

Soil Hill was poor but I noticed a change in the wind direction with some North and East in there somewhere.

Just Meadow Pipit  seen.

Things improved markedly approaching Back Lane after exiting the plantation, where a pr. Little Owl were sitting pretty on a wall - one of my favourite birds.

A large flock of Goldfinch (c40) flew over and landed 3 fields away to feed on thistle tops, soon they rose onto the conifers allowing a few distant photos.

I could not spot any Siskin in the group.

Ogden had the usual Gull species with 7 Lesser Black-backed Gulls keeping apart from the others.

There were no Cormorant here today.

At last I caught up with the, passerine alley, flock with Goldfinch, Blue Tit & Great Tit & Chaffinch.
It was difficulty to tell the number of each sp. as they were very mobile.

Separately, 7 Goldcrest were flitting about possibly with a Siskin in amongst but not sure and photos were hard to get.

Also with the Goldcrest was either a Willow Warbler or Chiffchaff - just got the bins on the bird before it left the tree: a real dapper bird looking in very good condition.

Either bird is a good result for October I thought.

A Jay flew over and later, on the way home , 4 Swallow were seen on Cow Hill Gate Lane.

A very late blog, due to Sue dragging me, kicking and screaming, to the Raggalds for some vino collapso.

(All spelling mistakes are deliberate though).

Goldfinch Flock

Some very poor, distant, photos of the flock in the conifers:-

Some more poor photos of the Goldcrest 'flock' - do they ever rest?

October Swallow!
