The Canal at Bingley

10.35 - 14:45

I enjoyed a good 4 hours stroll along the canal at Bingley today.

My target bird was Waxwing, I have seen them along the canal in previous years, but I did not get one today.

First birds up were 6 F/juv Goosander seen on the canal by the 5 rise locks, as I arrived here.
A further 3 Drake Goosander were seen later in the day.

There were 100's of Blackbirds flitting about and feeding on the copious berries.

Also feeding in the bushes c10, very timid, Redwing were seen, at different stages, during the outing.

It was a bonus to see a Kingfisher in flight, as I neared the farthest point of the walk and a double bonus to see a second one as I finished the walk.
The second bird was kind enough to stay just long enough to get a distant picture.

A wasp paid me a visit as I sat on a wall eating my sarnies!
(I was eating the sarnies - not the wasp).

It was a very enjoyable day out and about and the weather was quite warm for a short period in the sun.

A few pics:-

  2. Cheers Dave.
A good place for an easy stroll and there is a good birding area opposite the 5 rise locks.
    Enjoy your weekend.
