Sue and I had a 'non-birding' walk to Asa Nicholson's cafe and back this morning, for some exercise after the Christmas excesses, and I had a good local birding outing this aft.
There was a biting north wind at times but the lower (south) pond area at Oats Royd, out of the wind and in the lovely sunshine, was very spring like.
Bradshaw Park was lively with passerines and it was a pleasant surprise to bump into 'cowboy Graham' on his horse with his new saddle down at Oats Royd.
Oats Royd was pleasant enough.
A lot of the reeds have been removed from the 2 middle ponds but the ponds on the periphery still retain some good plant growth for the Moorhens to find shelter in.
Arriving back at Bradshaw a very distant Sparrowhawk was seen.
I had a walk up to the fields, past Brandy Hall, for a change.
This paid off with a sighting of a Little Owl on a field wall.
Nearing home 4 Meadow Pipit were far off in the fields - nice to see Meadow Pipit perched on a wall in the sunshine.
It was a very pleasant afternoon with at least 28 species seen - not bad for me - with no river or reservoir included in the walk.
