Another try for a Lesser Pecker failed.
It was an interesting day nonetheless.
I also enjoyed a pleasant chat with Mike S. who was doing the rounds.
4 Redwing were seen early on and as I was taking to Mike he spotted c40 Redwing disappearing into trees, a way Off.
Later c50 Redwing were in the trees in the middle of the open space north(ish) of Sefton Crescent.
4 Mistle Thrush, Greenfinch, Coal Tit and a pleasant surprise of a F. Great Spotted Woodpecker nearby with a second G.S.W. drumming in the distance.
Later 2 more G.S.W. were seen one was a Male - not sure about the second bird.
4 Nuthatch seen and plenty of Nuthatch calls during the outing.
Then a puzzle - a Coal Tit or was it??
I though I might have a possible Marsh Tit.
The bird was high in a tree, flitting about, making seeing it difficult.
Many photos later I headed off looking forward to seeing the photos on the computer ... and what have I got ... a really nice Coal Tit.
My first BEE. 5 Jay. A Green Woodpecker calling loudly from across the Golf Course.
Lots of birdsong and bird movement and a little bit of sunshine and a little bit of rain.
Priesley Green - a quick visit.
No Woodpeckers seen or heard here today.
4 Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, pr, Jay, lots of Goldfinch and a few others.
Coal Tit
First sighting of puzzle bird
followed by some more very poor ones!!
A Coal Tit - alas
Robin of the day
Nice woodpecker shots John, it's good down there for birdlife.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave - A good place to go when the Soil Hill weather is poor.
ReplyDeleteThe trees, at the end of the track, 200 yds to the left, beyond the Golf Club House (Catherine Slack Road) are worth a look as well.
John
I know John and the trees on the left going up to the club house always has plenty of drumming going on.
