Enjoyed a chance meeting on Bradshaw Lane with Dan B. on his way home from Spurn Point.
Enjoyed the chat Daniel.
While I was chatting to neighbour Graham S. a Kestrel made an appearance.
I thought it was a Sparrowhawk at the time.
Raggalds Flood 17:00
8 Teal around the water with 2 Pied Wagtail.
Soil Hill 17:30 .....
There were just Skylark and Meadow Pipit on the hill this evening.
A fairly comprehensive look see for Ring Ouzel or Wheatear failed on both counts.
A few Lapwing and Pheasant were in the lower north fields and a Moorhen was on the NK pond.
On Taylor Lane a Mistle Thrush was a the very top of a Pylon.
Also on Taylor Lane at 19:00 a Sparrowhawk sized raptor with sharp narrow wings was flying, with purpose, >NE.
7 or 8 wing beats were followed by a short glide when the bird lost height slightly. Then 7 or 8 wing beats again followed by a short glide.
The Raptor easily avoided Corvids when it employed more than the 7 / 8 wing beat pattern.
On a direct flight, no stopping or pausing.
I think the bird was a Peregrine Falcon - too slow again with the camera!!
Probably too dull (Hey ... the weather ) anyway to get a clear pic at the distance.
After the 2 missed opportunities this morning it was not my day for pictures I'm afraid.
A chat to the farmer on Perseverance Road revealed that the dead fox was a Vixen (my Vixen as the farmer put it).
The Vixen had been shot.
The farmer said he watched it bring up 6 young last year and didn't understand why people shoot Foxes.
As he put it "They don't eat cows do they".
