Oats Royd

11:00 - 14:00

Sue took Abigail to Spenboro' baths this morning so I had an hour of three's saunter down to Oats Royd and back.

A few fishermen were on the south end ponds, so I gave that area a miss.
Graham and his family were riding the horses up the track to the north.

It was quite warm today, in the sunshine.

The usual species were knocking about, with nothing to write home about.

A couple of Pied Wagtails were on the park bowling green.
Only a few Meadow Pipits were seen today.

A Pr. of Grey Wagtail, one calling the other not, were sat adjacent to one another on two fence posts.
Grey Wag. Is a good bird for me to get down here.

A Green Woodpecker called as I was on my way back up the track.

5, what I thought at the time were Mallard types flew over, far off.
I took a quick photo, before they went out of sight.

Looking at the photo, there are 3 Mallard and 2 Gull types.

One of the 'gulls' could possibly be a Tern.

A Pr. Canada geese were guarding 6 Gosling by the farm near the park.

That was about all - Swallows are more prevalent but no Raptors or Swifts for me today.

Lots of Butterflies about.

5 Mallard types - miles off alas

Top right bird cropped - Mallard

Bottom 2 birds on the left cropped - Mallard

2 Birds middle right cropped.
The right of these 2 birds looks to have the wing shape of a Tern to me?
But the birds are flying away from the camera adding to my confusion.
Could easily be hybrid Mallard
