>Out and About on the last day of July 2017

A good few miles to drive today.

We took Sue's dad out for a drive and some lunch at the White House Pub above Hollingworth Lake.

In the afternoon we took Abigail's dad to Go Outdoors at Dewsbury and then the four of us enjoyed a stroll at Pugneys Park Dewsbury/Wakefield area.

We stopped for 5 minutes so I could make a quick scan of Baitings Reservoir and also stopped by the roadside to scan Blackstone Edge Reservoir just before the White House Pub.

I had a 30 minute stroll around Hollingworth Lake before lunch in the pub.

I was on the look out for Common Scoter, with reports of them being seen on the Calderdale Birding Blog.

Both scans failed to pick any Scoters out though!

Baitings / Blackstone Edge Reservoir.

Baitings had lots of water a few Black Headed Gull, Heron and a couple of Cormorant.

Blackstone Edge was very full of water and had just 2 Canada Geese as far as I could see.

Hollingworth Lake.

Canada Geese, Black Headed Gull, Mute Swan, Cormorant, Lesser Black Backed Gull.
Swallow hugging the grass tops in the strong breeze.
Some distance stuff that I could not ID.

Pugneys.

A late enjoyable stroll around the main lake and a quick glance at the smaller lake on a dry windy afternoon.

Coot, Canada Geese, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Black Headed Gull. Pochard.
An adult Great Crested Grebe with Juv.
A good number of Pied Wagtail including juveniles.
A calling Whitethroat.

Sand Martin and Swallows.

Common Tern.

Many Mute Swan with young.

A Kestrel overhead with prey and possible a Sparrowhawk.

Lots of Cormorant on the smaller reservoir Island with a few Tufted Duck and a few other sp.

A couple of waterfowl too distant for me to ID.

An enjoyable tour of  West Yorkshire and beyond.
