Another local outing today, on a cracking autumn day.
Sue was taking Emma to the dentist and she dropped me off at Mixenden on her way to Sowerby Bridge.
I did a complete circuit of the res. and then followed the good track below Hunter Hill to Ogden.
Around Ogden Water and home via Ned Hill Track and Percy Road.
Birds:-
Not a bad do really.
Mixenden res. was bereft of birds.
A Green Woodpecker called a couple of times and Great Spotted Woodpecker flew over.
From Mixenden Res. to Ogden Golf Course there were 14 Canada Geese, 2 Mistle Thrush and a Wren.
Nice to bump into P.S. here, doing the rounds.
A Heron was at the field bottom near the stream.
Above the wooden step stile 14 Linnet were relaxing in a tree.
I took lots of pics and I've looked through them but I believe all the birds were Linnet.
Over the golf course, A Kestrel was being mobbed by Crows and a Jay flew across the fairway.
Stars of the outing was 6 Stonechat just beyond the stile in the rough.
The birds were flitting about all over the shop but 6 seemed a reasonable count after I had sat and watched them for ages.
4 Wren were also in among the Chats.
15:00 Ogden Water
Cormorant with the usual Gulls and Mallard as far as I could tell.
On the way around the west side a Kingfisher left the bushes and flew a bit further on.
Later the bird flew across the corner above the water, a dazzling display in the sun.
Later still, I managed to pick it out, low down in the gloom.
Along the west bank the Chaffinch flock seem to be building.
They were not easy to see, hidden by the bank and the bushes.
A few popped up periodically into the trees, not staying long.
No Brambling though.
A Coal Tit was on the feeders.
Leaving Ogden I had to get a clog on, so I did not see very much.
Pheasant, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Kestrel seen as I passed through the plantation area.
Ned Hill Track had 7 Goldfinch on thistles.
A pretty Dunnock
An 'empty' Mixenden Reservoir
Ogden Water
Unusual to see Gulls in trees here.
