Bradshaw - Soil Hill - Back Lane - Ogden Water - Peat Pitts - Bradshaw

12:45 - 16:20

After a pleasant morning with John from Royston Joinery (I was doing my best to hinder his progress) - I had a free afternoon.

A bit of a longer traipse today on a bright but windy and cold day - especially on Soil Hill.
Ogden Water fairer better with calmer weather here.

Birds:-

Tough going in the very strong wind.

A Little Owl seen at distance from Taylor Lane.
Common Gull on the covered reservoir nr. Soil Hill.

Soil Hill:

Going along the main soil hill track, I nearly stood on a Snipe, I was within 1ft of it before it flushed.
It gave a surprized muted call before flying (straight) 10 yds over the mounds and out of sight.
I did not see how far the bird flew, it could well have been a Jack Snipe (the call was a lot quieter and 'more refined' than the normal call of a Snipe!). But I'll never know.

3 Meadow Pipit and a nice surprize in the shape of a Skylark.

Ned Hill Track: Blackbird!

The Plantation: 3 Pheasant, Bullfinch calling from the conifers.

Back Lane: Moorhen. (no sign of Crossbill alas).

Ogden Water: (water level very, very low).

Cormorant, Usual Gulls / Mallards.
2 M. Goosander.

From Ogden - Home:

Stock Dove, Herring Gulls over, Coal Tit, Kestrel.

2 very distant Red Legged Partridge seen from Bradshaw Lane.

Abigail's half term break starts today so I'll be in demand for some of it!

  1. Hec John - and there was I thinking you were with the 'big birder boys' at Flamborough Head today watching 156 Pomerine Skuas go past. Fancy there being another John Little !!!!

    Just Google It!
ONE P.Skua would be one more than I've ever seen though.
    Great birding spot Flamborough Head.
Hope to see you over winter!!
