Old Moor RSPB Nr. Barnsley

Sue had to make a visit to Barnsley today so we incorporated a visit to the Old Moor RSPB reserve afterwards.

A chilly afternoon but we managed to stay dry.

Another enjoyable, friendly visit here and the café is great.
The birds sp. seen today were similar to my last outing but with fewer Waders.

Home, was via Hudds. Royal Infirmary with some pretty rainbows and sharp showers for company , seen  on the way to Bradshaw.

Birds:-

Shoveler, Teal, Pochard, Wigeon.
Canada Geese, Greylag Geese.
A skein of Pink feet over.
Buzzard, Coot, Moorhen.
Little Grebe, Peregrine Falcon.
Little Egret, Lapwing.
3 Green Sandpiper, one sporting a yellow leg ring by the looks of it.
Snipe, 6 Heron.

A Peregrine had a Coot or Moorhen for lunch.
After catching the bird it landed near some Jackdaws.
It left It's prey and ran, head down towards the Jackdaws.
I've never seen this before.
It flew off, but soon returned to retrieve it prey before taking it away.

A bit of a Macabre sight, but … wildlife.
