RSPB Old Moor Reserve nr Barnsley

A visit to Old Moor nature reserve nr. Barnsley this afternoon, my first visit here.
A very friendly place with a good café and lots of bird life.
A mild afternoon with limited brightness.
The water is very low according to the regulars and the waders etc were distant.

My target bird was Green Sandpiper and I was lucky enough to see 3 today.
This bird is a lifer for me.

A good start to the outing as well.
Approaching the Visitor Centre I spotted a bird on the large pylon - a Peregrine Falcon.

3 Whooper Swans had arrived this morning and they remained asleep on the water throughout my visit.

Other Birds:-

400+ Golden Plover.
Teal, Gadwall.
A single Ruff was pointed out to us by a young man with a scope.
Wigeon, Shoveler.

Sue picked out a Ringed Plover.

Tufted Duck, Coot, Pheasant, Greylag Goose.
Canada Goose, Robin, Dunnock.
Little Grebe, Great Created Grebe, Snipe.
Heron, Linnet.

And some others - no doubt.

I woke this morning wondering if one of my Snipe photos from yesterday's Soil Hill visit, was actually a Woodcock!

Peregrine Falcon (just)

Distant Green Sandpiper

Anyone care to count the Goldies and Lapwing?

Great Crested Grebe!!
