Soil Hill and Bradshaw Area

13:25 - 15:25

A mild afternoon with a bit of brightness and another local birding jaunt hoping for Snow Bunting, Ring O or Black Redstart …. well you never know.

It was tough going again today I'm afraid.

A Mistle Thrush was eating Mountain Ash berries in a neighbour's garden as I left home.

3 Fieldfare made a welcome overhead pass, giving their characteristic calls, as I went up Taylor Lane.

There was an interesting article in The Times yesterday about Fieldfare, in summer, mentioning how they 'poo' on any birds taking an unhealthy interest in their offspring.

Not much happening on Soil Hill and a real good look along the 'Ring Ouzel' hedge came up blank.

7 or so Ducks on the distant NK pond looked like Mallards.

It's just possible that there are Wigeon with the Mallard but the photo is rubbish given the distance, even lightened and cropped.
See what you think..

Just a few Gulls on the Shay fields today with Herring Gulls passing over.

A Kestrel was hunting above Soil Hill and a couple of Herring Gull were in the fields, but they didn't stay long.

As I went along Ned Hill Track 2 different calls caught my ear - A Kestrel and a Little Owl.

A scan about found a bird perched on a distant farm roof.
I could not tell what it was, until it moved and revealed itself as a Little Owl.
Another new location for me to see this beaut.

Another Kestrel seen on the way back and 4 Mallard in the yucky waters of the Taylor Lane midden.

A 20 min detour up the track that leads towards Roper Lane from the old bus terminus was very disappointing with just Woodpigeon and Blackbird seen.

A slight reprieve to a poor outing was that of a Sparrowhawk 'V' Carrion Crow tussle high above Bradshaw Lane, as I neared home.

Local birding ......….the megas are all here somewhere.
I've just got to live long enough to see 'em!

Female bird on the left?? probably a Mallard.
