I was feeling a bit optimistic late afternoon and with Emma, Abigail and Sue trying to understand the instructions to a Christmas knitting present, I left them to it and had a final shot for a Soil Hill Snow Bunt.
I think there is more chance of finding Spock's Brain up there.
It was quite mild and breezy but very dull again, I'm afraid.
Not a lot going on.
c50 Small Gulls were in the Bonnet Fields
8 or so Fieldfare was a nice surprize - I have not seen many so far this autumn. The Fieldfare were feeding with a large flock of Starling.
Soil Hill itself was quite with 3 Meadow Pipit.
A brown Partridge sized bird left the hill heading towards the Shay fields.
It had an undulating flight a bit like a Green Woodpecker but I did not get the bins or the camera on it.
A concerted effort to find Little Owls during the outing failed to pick any up at their favoured locations.
Maybe they were in the Pub.
A detour to the Raggalds 'flood' found it almost dry.
A large flock for Lapwing c90were circling for quite some time - dividing into 2 groups before reforming into one group.
******************************
I was early for a doctors appointment this morning so I parked the car on the road above Mixenden and had a 15 mins watch.
A Raptor was being mobbed by Corvids.
Possibly a Raven and a Sparrowhawk.
I've posted the photos - just in case someone can ID them.
Miles off, on Mixenden Reservoir there looked to be 2 larger birds on the side of the water.
The distance to the water makes the picture more or less useless though!
So that was 2018 - where did it go?
My dream for 2019...
I finally beat Abigail at Snakes and Ladders and
A big earth mover turns up, and churns up Soil Hill.
All the best for 2019.
John.
Looking over Mixenden.
2 whiteish dots - mile off.
This top bird looks a bit Ravenesque
