New Years Day 2019 - Shibden Park / Soil Hill

Shibden Park

We took Abi and Emma to Shibden Park to get some fresh air. The bit of wet stuff earlier on had gone and we enjoyed an hour or so in the playground and the café.

No real birding time for me but there were a few birds about.

Black Headed Gulls in large numbers.
Mute Swan.
Coot and Mallard and a Cormorant > S high.
Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Soil Hill 14:15 - 16:00

I thought I'd start the new year the same way as I ended the old one with a visit to Soil Hill. A late outing, again.
Dog walkers along the top of the hill put paid to me flushing anything this aft though.

I did pick out a Little Owl on my way up Taylor Lane and the large Lapwing flock seen yesterday were seen in the fields opposite the Raggalds pub and seen airborne again on my way home later.
It was pleasing to start the new year with an Owl tick.
The Starlings were building in number as the light faded and there were a couple of Mistle Thrush knocking about.

Other than that the usual sp. seen.

I pondered over 3 distant ,fast moving birds, seen at dusk.
I wondered if they were Golden Plover but I cannot get any light into the photo to tell - they probably are, but hopefully I'll get a pic of some a bit closer for my 'tick' later this year.

One of the larger Soil Hill turbines has lots its branches.
They lie in a heap below it's trunk.
