Coley / Priestley Green with 2 puzzlers

12:45 - 14:25

A miserable day, weather wise, with drizzle and a gusty wind but mild with a temp. of 8 degrees.
A short stroll from Coley Church down Soper House Lane, Northedge Lane through Priestly Green and down the bridleway to the A58.
The return was via the pleasant, if very muddy, bridleway up to Coley Church.

Birds:

Tough going again today.
However a couple of 'throw away' photos, of distant birds that I could not ID through the bins, has me head scratching for a spell.
Always get a spell if you scratch wood you know.

Birds of a poor outing were Jackdaw, with a flock of 100+ birds and another of 70+ birds.

Others:

Jay, a couple of Fieldfare overhead and a couple of Goldcrest that flitted around in a holly bush forever.
They did pop out for half a mo. but getting photos of 'em was frustrating.

Puzzlers:

I eyeballed a Lesser Black-backed Gull, so I though at the time, but on the photo it look more like a dark Herring Gull.

The second small bird was very distant and I could not ID it through the bins.
Cropped and lightened a bit, it looks like a Linnet to me.
Unusual for Linnet in January ??

  1. Looks good for LBBG and Linnet John. Linnets scarce with us in winter but in recent years we have had them at Swales and also wintering birds at Soil Hill in years gone by !

  2. Much appreciated Dave.
It's nice to get a few awkward ones right!
Not been up Swales or Soil Hill in a bit, hopefully soon though.
