Hebden Bridge to Sowerby Bridge and Raggalds GOLDIES

Hebden B. - Sowerby B.

11:30 - 13:30

Sue enjoys this walk along side the canal and today I left the camera at home but enjoyed the walk as well.
We parked at Sowerby B. and climbed the Matterhorn aka Tuel Lane, where we caught the bus to Hebden.

A lovely sunny day -1 Deg at home +4 Deg. at Sowerby B.
The obligatory stop for a toasted teacake in Hebden B.
was followed by a coffee and biscuits when we arrived at the Wetherspoons pub at Sowerby B. - amazing value and good quality stuff.

Birds:

We didn't hang about today but there was not a lot to hang about for, as it transpired!
A couple of Heron, loads of Canada Geese and a calling Great Spotted Woodpecker was about it.

Raggalds Goldies:

We called at Morrisons on the way home and the shop was interrupted by a text from B.S. with a report of a flock of Goldies near the Raggalds.

I hurried Sue through Morrisons and she dropped me at Percy Road end.
I could not locate the birds at first nr. the Raggalds so I had a look at the football field - no luck.
A second look opp. the Raggalds revealed a few Lapwing and then the Goldies dropped in!
The birds were in silhouette with bright sun behind them.
I dropped down the Bonnet where a footpath on my left allowed access to the field there.
I manged to get some decent photos before the birds moved to the field over the road.
The Goldies and Lapwing were plagued by Black Headed Gulls trying to nab their worms presumably.

I stayed a good while enjoying the sight of the birds in the lovely sunshine, before heading off to Taylor Lane to look for Little Owl.
I did not locate the Little Owl and a scan from Taylor Lane showed just 4 Goldies in the fields.
The main flock could still have been there though, obscured by the contours of the land.

A heart-warming sight - Goldies in the sun - a real gem for a local sighting!
Many thanks to B.S. for the text.

The goldies have made my week ( I need some brightening up this week!).

Taylor Lane - a different world up here!

Second winter I've seen 'em on the bonnet fields - thanks to B.S's text and Sue's driving, this time.
