Coach Road Area ( Lightcliffe) and Bradshaw - Soil Hill

Coach Road Area 10:10 - 13:00.

I took a run down to Coach Road on the hunt for Woodpecker (the smaller the better).
I parked nr. Crow Nest Golf Club and gave the surrounding paths a good coat of looking at.
Later, I called at the Lightcliffe cafe for a breather, before retracing my steps.
I was hoping for some Woodpecker calls or some drumming but Jim Reeves's distant drums remained silent.
I did eyeball one Great Spotted Woodpecker though.

Birds:

Long Tailed Tit, Singing Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Collard Dove and a few others.

After what seemed like an age under trees, I needed some Big Blue Sky overhead!

Soil Hill 13:30 - 15:00

To get some Sky,I had a stroll up to and around Soil Hill this aft.
Warm in the sunshine on the way up decidedly chilly in the breeze on the hill top.

Birds:

Heron, Moorhen and Mallads on NK pond.
2 Singing Skylark and 2 Meadow Pipits.
Herring Gull, smaller Gulls airborne over Ogden.
Kestrel hunting off the west side.
A cracking, solitary Fieldfare in the big "Taylor Lane" tree was a real treat.

Nothing special but not a bad outing on a really pleasant day.

Amazing how much time was available to me, when both ladies of the house have their hair done on the same day.
One in the morning and one in the afternoon!

  1. Fieldfares look immaculate at the moment John - preparation for the journey back across the North Sea. You'll track down that 'woodie' yet - we hope !
Pleased to see you found another cafe nearby !!!

  2. Leaves are coming Dave.
4 years , off and on, searching for Woodie down there!
Looks like I'm not going to eyeball one!
    Best chance is a nest.
If the young call constantly like GSW?
    (Only a toasted teacake today!).
