I had a very snowy walk to the School Lane paper shop this morning.
I took the camera just in case - just a couple of Herring Gulls and a small number of Common Gulls seen towards Oats Royd. 4 Moorhen were near the Bradshaw Park pond - not a lot else.
A snow shower with massive snowflakes left a covering on Bradshaw Lane- 30 mins later the snow had gone.
Raggalds Area:
After staying indoors doing the crossword for most of the morning, by late afternoon and I needed some air, so I had a 'hailstony' stroll up to the Raggalds, where the wind was gale force.
At least the recent wet weather has deposited some juice in the flood and with this week's forecast 'unsettled' it will be worth another look.
There is a dip in the land where it floods, and it looks as if it shelters the birds from the worst of the wind.
Today just a Lesser Black-backed Gull and a Herring Gull were there - but not for long!
The fields opposite the Raggalds held 14 Lapwing, a few Starling and a few Black Headed Gull.
The weather was not as bad as I expected really, so the walk was quite enjoyable.
(I'm getting Little Owl withdrawal symptoms - ain't seen one lately).
Some snowy feeders, on the way to the paper shop
Some snow on the distant fells
Below the one that got away:
This Gull took off just as I arrived at the flood:-
Probably a 1st Winter Black Headed Gull.
