Bradshaw - Ogden long circular hike

9:50 - 14:30

A good weather forecast for this morning so I was looking forward to a long hike.

First off Taylor Lane and over Soil Hill, through the plantation to Ogden woods.
Then, a lengthy stroll inside the woods along the east side boundary path to its demise.
A decent path drops left here to join the stream at the moors boundary stile.
A good search here for Spotted Flycatcher failed.
I then followed the stream to Ogden water and after a circuit of the water and a coffee in the visitor centre I took the path at the end of the prom. to drop down to union Lane/ Rock Road area.
A right turn here took me to Lower Brockholes where I followed the Calderdale Way path, mostly, to home.

Birds:

2 Pied Wagtail (1 Juv.) on Taylor Lane.
1 Whitethroat was calling near Grey Horse Farm, Taylor Lane.
A Kestrel hunting over Soil Hill.
2 Whitethroat on the north side of Soil Hill and one seen along Ned Hill Track.
Also hereabouts Curlew.
3 Great Spotted Woodpecker heard (1 seen).
I Juv. Great Spotted Woodpecker seen.
Pr. Grey Wagtail seen at Ogden.
Bullfinch.
Swift and Swallow seen throughout.

Good numbers of calling Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff.
Blackcap were hard to come by.

7 or so Juv. Pied Wagtail were seen during the outing.

Another 'possible' Garden Warbler seen when I dropped down to the stream, high above Ogden Water looking for Flycatcher.

The bird flitted about but after a long wait it remained mostly hidden.

I'll get a photo of one - one day!

Enjoyable - just made it home before the rain.

Amazing what you see in Ogden woods.

The boundary of my Ogden woodland walk

Probably a Chiffchaff.

Very distant Great Spotted Woodpecker (Juv)

Chaffinch, fledgling on the road near Lower Brockholes.
Good Luck young fella.
