A beautiful sunny day and warm with it. We went with the intention of looking at a few museums but opted for strolling along the river and looking at the Shambles etc.
This suited me find because I'm not keen on being inside museums at the best of times.
Coming home we caught the 8pm(ish) 'direct' train from York towards Halifax.
Arriving in Leeds station there was an announcement on the train tannoy "This journey is terminated here, please leave the train".
We all go off the train, bewildered, and asked the driver/guard what was going on.
"Ridiculous" he muttered followed by a "Don't know what's happening".
With that he left us.
We looked at the information board and ran through the station to catch another train to Bradford Interchange.
As we headed towards Bradford an announcement over the tannoy told us that "We might go through to Halifax - please keep listening" - but it didn't!
It transpired, on social media, that a train had hit a lamp post between Low Moor and Halifax - hence the cancellation of our train.
From Bradford we eventually caught the 576 bus to Queensbury and then legged it to Bradshaw from Queensbury traffic lights.
We got home after 11pm - which all in all wasn't bad.
Quite and adventure and a really enjoyable day in York.
Birds:
Obviously not a birding outing but I did keep an eye out.
Many 'Townie' Greylag Geese and Canada Geese.
A few Greylags sporting leg rings.
c10 Herring Gull and a few other sp.
No sign of Spotted Flycatcher alas.
Lightcliffe 10:25 - 12:10
I had another try for a Lesser Pecker along Coach Road and Newton Park this morning but failed miserably.
I did locate 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker and came across G.S.W. chick(s) constantly hunger calling.
Other than that, lots of birdsong and the usual species were seen.
I videoed a short burst of bird song that was repeated for over 5 minutes.
(Another bird with the same call was also singing near by).
A long look for the bird failed to find it.
The video does not do justice to the actual song but I had to keep it short as there is a size limit on the Google blog video download (and of my Google diskspace).
The bird is definitely not a Wren or a Chaffinch and I believe it could be a Garden Warbler - any comments are welcome
York:
Nearly home - Looking east from Mountain at 11pm ish

A short bust at the beginning of the video
