It was a much improved day weather wise today so we decided to walk to Haworth from home.
The mild, calm weather caught us out and the warm coats that we started off in, ended in the sack.
The route was along Bradshaw Farm field paths to Ned Hill Lane and then along to Ogden Lane.
Ogden Lane and then a long slog up the Back Lane bridleway got us above Oxenhope Reservoir (TMR)(11:15am).
Its a good feeling when the water on the path is running away from you instead of towards you - you're over the hill!
We now dropped steeply down the fields to skirt the west side of Leeming Reservoir (12:00).
On the way down to Leeming, Sue was well pleased to see that the broken, awkward ladder stile that crosses the stone drain had been replaced with a kissing gate through the wall - no climbing!
From Leeming we dropped down to Back Leeming and along the main road past the Co-op to Oxenhope Steam Railway station (12:30).
A right turn before the car park and a quick left turn through the overflow car park took us to the path next to the stream.
We followed the stream all the way into Haworth.
Quite muddy along here where my boots decided to spring a leak.
The climb up into Haworth Village is a real dog - it seems to get harder each time.
A toasted teacake and half a bun in the cafe!
(I wanted a full English but apparently I'm on a diet).
We came home using 3 buses (Haworth/Hebden Bridge - Hebden Bridge/Halifax - Halifax/Illingworth) and a short walk home.
We were extremely lucky with the bus timings.
Some great views on the walk and the views from the Haworth to Hebden Bridge bus ride are pretty good as well.
Birds:-
I took a smaller camera with me and,for fear of being completely left behind, kept the birding to a minimum.
Well, that's my opinion.
A solitary Redwing along Bradshaw fields.
Great Spotted Woodpecker calling - Back Lane Area.
A Raven calling as it flew overhead - Back Lane Area.
2 or maybe 3 Stonechat seen from Back Lane opposite the wind farm on the heather.
Plenty of Meadow Pipit.
5 Red Grouse.
Oxenhope Reservoir (TMR) is a long way from the path.
3 or so flocks of (probably all) Lapwing flying over the water.
Gulls on the water, but too distant to ID properly.
A large 'black dot' on the water!!!
6 or so Meadow Pipit in an old tree, as we left the highest point towards Leeming.
2 Stonechat seen in the fields as we dropped down towards Leeming from Oxenhope Reservoir.
2 Cormorant, c45 Small Gull, 2 Greylag Geese (probably domesticated) - Leeming Reservoir.
2 Grey Wagtail just after the Water Treatment Works beyond Oxenhope Railway Line.
2 Pied Wagtail on the new housing estate, by the stream, as we entered Haworth.
A couple of Jays.
Distant Raven
Making progress - Soil Hill far behind.
All down hill now.
Plenty of solitude if you want it.
A few Meadow Pipits in a tree:-
The NEW stile!
Just caught this large Corvid in the corner of a photo.
I think it's a Carrion Crow though!
