Hellifield Flash

Sue fancied a Christmas (Bah humbug) shopping outing to Ambleside, Cumbria today.
There are some great outdoor clothing shops here.
Gaynor Sports used to be 'The' outdoor clothing shop but they have  lots of competition with new shops here now.
Minus 3 degrees along the way and Ambleside was a tad cloudier and colder than at home.

There were some lovely lovely views on the way up the A65.
Good flocks of Lapwing were seen in the frozen and sometimes flooded fields.
One shop assistant was telling us that the Lake District had had very little rain over the last couple of months, which made a very pleasant change.

We stopped for 5 mins on the way up, at Hellifield Flash.
There is some construction works taking place here but I don't know the consequences of this on the flash?
There is only one real vantage point here and the morning light was difficult and consequently the photos are poor.
Which was a great pity because they was some smashing Wildfowl here.

Not much time to see Lake Windermere - 2 Cormorant and a Goosander.

Anyway here are a few pictures of ' em.

With Calderdale reservoirs full to overflowing and not much shoreline it was pleasing to see some wildfowl that hopefully will show up locally soon.

p.s.I had a report of Waxwings at Ilkley yesterday.

Birds:-

Pintail, Shoveler, Teal, Mallard, Lapwing, Canada Goose, Wigeon, Gadwall and a few other sp.

I'm guessing that the small Duck in front of the Shoveler is a Teal
