Ogden Reservoir

10:00 - 12:30

An interesting outing today, another dull and gloomy day with bits of showers.

c20 Fieldfare over Bradshaw Lane as I drove to Ogden.

The Ogden Water circuit was lively with lots of small birds feeding near the path.
The water, as usual, was disappointing with just the usual Mallard and Small Gulls about plus 2 Herring Gulls.

A good look through the Goldcrest flock failed to find a Firey type!
Great Spotted Woodpecker called from the North East end trees.

Approaching passerine alley high pitched calls alerted me to Siskin.
Some Siskin were very high in the conifers but 5 or so came down to feed on the Alder seeds, a bit nearer the path.
It was quite difficult to get any decent picture with the birds being in shadow.

10 Siskin would be a fair estimate I believe.

I called at the visitors centre for a coffee and then had a second circuit of the water.

2 Raven were seen but they were soon gobbled up by the overhanging trees. One West high the second over the water, East.

A Nuthatch was in the trees along the diagonal path leading to the car park, together with a few Chaffinch.

Always a good do when I spot Siskin - one of my (many) bogey birds.

An enjoyable outing today.

Lots of rare Swans and Wildfowl due any day now.
Perhaps they will arrive by sleigh.
