A run down to Lightcliffe this morning on a dull breezy mild day.
I parked at Catherine Slack and had a good look around here abouts before a walk up Coach Road to the cafe.
The return down Coach Road was not as productive as early.
A spring feel to the day with many birds singing and chasing about.
Can't help feeling that this is all a bit premature and that snow will catch 'em out. (Bah humbug).
Bird of the day was Great Spotted Woodpecker.
As many as 5 were seen/heard with one pair chasing each other around.
2 GSW's were drumming.
(No sign of the Little fellow though).
According to the paper Lesser Pecker can make a 3 note call similar to a Nuthatch.
Its got to be the right time to look for the Little One, though, with some Peckers drumming and the leaves off the trees.
Only a matter of time before.... (don't hold your breath though).
Other Birds:
2 Sparrowhawk.
4 Nuthatch.
2 Song Thrush - 1 singing.
Collard Dove.
M. Bullfinch.
c20 Redwing.
Many Goldcrest and Long Tailed Tit.
Lots of other commoner sp. but no Greenfinch.
A Wagtail in flight was possibly a Grey Wag with a more "melodious" call than a Pied?
No new 'ticks' today, but an enjoyable birding outing.
