A dry but cold outing today.
It was good to bump into NK at Ogden Water.
Ogden Water:
First up a 'black and white' bird was at the very north of the reservoir, miles off, seen as I walked along the Promenade.
M. Goosander was my guess as I looked through the bins.
A very poor distant photo of the bird shows that it could be a M. Goldeneye.
I did not eyeball it when I got to the north end unfortunately.
A fairly rare pair of birds for Ogden with 2 f Goldeneye.
The birds kept their distance, keeping well out in the middle.
A nice 'tick' to keep my list chug chugging along.
Good to see Goldcrest flitting about with 6+ seen.
2 Jay.
A 'clumsy' Gull taking several attempts to land on the railing at the west end of the promenade, seen at distance from the east side looked vaguely like a Yellow Legged Gull.
There is too much white in the wing mirrors for YLG? and going by it's size I think it is a Herring Gull rather than a Common Gull - but I could well be wrong!!
Plantation Area:
Kestrel and a Stock Dove.
Percy Road:
The farm at the south end of Soil Hill track had a bit of a commotion with a Blackbird being pursued by a Sparrowhawk.
The Blackbird escaped and a speculative distant photo of the general area paid dividends with the, Sparrowhawk captured, perched on farm machinery.
M Goldeneye(?).
The 'best' of 3 poor photos
Goldcrest - they are never still!
Very distant 'clumsy' Gull.
Goldeneye ready for the off
Not my best effort of an 'in flight' Goldeneye!"
Spot the Sparrowhawk
A bit easier to see here
Female (?) Sparrowhawk.
Ram, complete with tupperware.
M Goldeneye - confirmed by NK's blog today.
