Saturday's garden skywatch and local exercise walk

A winter's day arrived today with a cold very brisk northly wind blowing all day.
I hunkered down on the garden bench, sheltered by the porch from most of the wind, to watch the sky, for a good few hours off and on.
Some lovely sky patterns early on.

My garden list is now 27.

After lunch we had our exercise walk and nearly made it home before the showers came along.

Birds:
Garden / Skywatch.

Grey Wagtail, Goldfinch, Herring Gull, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, Blackbird, Dunnock, Starling, Jackdaw, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Heron, Greenfinch, Blue and Great Tit, Kestrel.
Perhaps 10 Gulls during the watch, were too distant to ID with any confidence.

Birds:
Walk.

Mallard, Goldfinch, Canada Geese, Greenfinch and my favourite - Little Owl, very distant across the fields.

It's amazing what goes through your mind when sky watching.

President Regan kept 2 birds as pets, a male Twite and a Female Bittern.
The Male Twite fancied the Female Bittern, but the Bittern had had a cruel breakup from a previous encounter with a Male Twite.
So you could say:-
Ron's Bittern's Twite Shy.

(Not a patch on the grapevine German sausage gag - but I tried).

  1. Good do with the sky watch John. To be continued this week - but it might not be as good a week as the last one for sitting out !

  2. Hope a Osprey comes over Dave but not when the sky is blue.
    Might get a photo then!
Longjohn weather, or in my case shortjohns.
The few Swallows reported are going to head back south I guess for a day or two.
    Keep warm.
