Sunday Garden Watch - 1st Swallow of 2020

The forecast heat wave never quite reached our garden today with quite a strong chilly SSE breeze keeping the watch quite cold.

A long slog early on with not much happening in the clear blue skies. Later the thin wispy clouds formed and a few birds made an appearance.
Bird of the day was Swallow with one heard only, mid afternoon , soon followed by a second one calling and this one was seen, very high NNE.
This added one to both my garden list and my yearly Calderdale list, making 80 so far this year.
Our 'resident' Wren made an appearance, at last, adding another bird to the garden list now 39.

The exercise walk brought with it a few birds:-

Buzzard, 3 Kestrel,  Skylark, Meadow Pipit, and Little Owl.
A single Redshank was on the Raggalds Flood and a good look for BS's Wheatear, seen earlier today,  failed to produce the goods - although I could have easily missed it with the distance and the mounds etc.

Good to get a yearly tick (still hoping to scope a Wheatear out of the Kitchen window).

  1. I see one of your Little Owls bit the dust unfortunately. ! A nice 'tick' for the garden with the Swallow.
