We had our usual longish walk this morning and I had a short drive to Swalesmoor this aft. for a walk up Ringby Lane.
Sweltering again in the garden (for me anyway), a lot more pleasant on Ringby Top, with a cooling breeze here.
A Sparrowhawk???? was being mobbed by 2 Crows, then 3 Crows then 5 Crows and 2 Magpies before it eventually left.
It was difficult to photograph the Sparrowhawk with the bird diving below the hillside frequently.
A Kestrel was high overhead, unusually the Crows seemed to ignore the Kestrel mostly.
c12 Large Gulls, mostly Lesser Black-backed Gulls, but 2 Herring Gulls were present if my interpretation of the Herring Gull call was correct.
Also 2 very Large Gulls that I'm unsure of the ID.
A single Lapwing looked out of place, here, with all the Corvids - I counted over 50 Corvids in one field alone. There must be enough food for them here.
Other birds were:-
Whitethroat, Linnet, Pied Wagtail, Dunnock, Blackbird, Skylark, Meadow Pipit.
Another couple of birdcalls from brambles that had me beat! With the birds refusing to show,
As I headed home, a Great Spotted Woodpecker called, once, from a garden at the very bottom of the track.
An enjoyable outing and my first change of scenery for ages.
It was difficult to decide, on the way home along Swalesmoor Road, whether to endure the accumulated heat in the car or to lower the car windows and put up with the pong!
