Brighouse Canal Birding - Goosander Bonanza

Sue dropped me in Brighouse this afternoon. The weather was a lot warmer than at home with the odd drop of light rain.
I walked from Brighouse towards Elland but only as far as the weir with the 2 adjacent river bridges.

Quite an interesting outing today with some good birds on offer, now and again, the highlight was a family of 10 Goosanders - 1 adult bird and 9 large juveniles.

Birds:-

10 Goosanders.
2 Kingfisher.
Black Headed Gull.
3 Blackcap seen - others heard.

Possibly a distant Garden Warbler singing near the fishing ponds.
But.. I could be mistaken...the bird did not sing for very long before the quiet came and I am not over familiar with the song!

Chiffchaff were exceptional in number with one or two singing every 300 yds or so of the walk!

A calling , distant, Reed Warbler refused to show itself.

Lesser Black-backed Gull.
2 Grey Wagtail.
Canada Geese.
Mallard.
Jay.
2 Moorhen, one with 2 young chicks in tow.
2 Song Thrush (at least).
Just 3 Swift by the weir with a very fast flypast of 4 Sand Martin
Great Spotted Woodpecker called briefly.
Long Tailed Tit.
Blue Tit.
Great Tit.
Goldfinch.
Wrens and a few other sp.

Lots of walkers about and lots of fishermen.

First sighting of the Goosander family
